The ritual
Candle care
A hand-poured candle rewards a little attention. Five habits keep the burn even, the glass clean and the scent true from the first light to the last.
Trim the wick to 5 mm
Before every light, trim the cotton wick. A long wick gives a tall, smoky flame and leaves soot on the glass.
First burn: 2 hours
Let the wax melt all the way to the edges on the first burn. This sets the memory of the pool and prevents tunnelling.
Enjoy up to 4 hours per burn
After 3–4 hours, snuff the flame, let the wax set, then relight. This keeps the vessel safe and the fragrance at its best.
Snuff the flame gently
Use a snuffer or the lid to put out the flame. Blowing scatters soot and can splash hot wax.
Store cool and covered
Keep candles lidded, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Heat dulls the top notes over time.

For your safety, keep a lit candle in sight and enjoy it for up to 4 hours at a time.
